WhatsApp group warns Muslim girls against removing burqa, police say they are monitoring threat

Members of a WhatsApp group called Muslim Defense Force have threatened to sue Muslim girls for removing the burqa in public places.

The group said it would beat girls who remove the burqa in public places.

A WhatsApp group named “Muslim Defense Force” has been scanned for messages from the group threatening to take action against Muslim girls for removing the burqa and hijab in public places.

The Kannada messages read: In the basements of shopping malls, we saw many wearing burkas and misbehaving. Our workers have already warned them. If this happens again, you will be beaten.

The group also asked parents to watch their children whenever they go to college and other public places.

The posts also revealed that MDF workers are ‘watching’ Muslim girls in Mangalore for any ‘misbehaviour’. If they don’t wear a burqa, they will be beaten, reads one of the texts.

Reacting to the incident, Mangalore Police Commissioner Shashi Kumar said he was monitoring threatening posts on social media platforms linked to the Muslim Defense Forces.

Police have advised parents to ensure their children do not remove their burkas in public places for selfies and photos as they may be attacked by members of the Muslim group.

“A WhatsApp group claims to be the protector of Muslims’ rights. They say that Muslim women who wear a burka in public places should not take it out to take photos and selfies in public places, otherwise they will be attacked. They have sent messages to parents on social media, so we have been vigilant about this, ”said the commissioner.
