Udupi, September 8: As of Monday, September 6, physical classes began in the district for grades 6 to 8. The attendance percentage in this district is the highest in the state, said deputy director of public education, NH. Nagur.
On Monday, the statewide attendance percentage stood at 29.15 for Standard 6, 28.05 for Seventh Standard and 23.22% for Eighth Standard. For Udupi District, attendance was 59% for Sixth Standard, 67% for Eighth Standard, 51% for Ninth Standard and 57% for Tenth Standard, Nagur said.
As of Tuesday, attendance in the district was 79 percent for Standard 6, 77 percent for Seventh Standard, 75 percent for Eighth Standard, 74 percent for Ninth Standard and 75 percent for Tenth Standard.
Chikkodi is second behind Udupi with 55% while Madhugiri with 54% is in third place.
He revealed that attendance is low in private schools and it is noted that many private schools have not started physical classes. He said instructions had been issued to block education officials to ensure that all public, subsidized and private schools in the district immediately start sixth to tenth standards. “Covid standard operating procedure should be followed when opening schools. Private schools that do not start physical classes should receive notifications. Private schools cannot write their own rules and run their schools, he warned.
