Udupi, December 26: Govindraj Hegde, chief secretary of the Federation of Wine Merchant Associations, expressed disappointment at the Karnataka government’s decision on Sunday (December 26th) to restrict the number of people in bars and pubs during New Year’s celebrations.
In his statement to the media, Hegde said: “The government ordered bars, pubs and restaurants to close at 10pm. the appearance of the Covid. In addition, we have verbally approached you (government) and brought our difficulties to your attention.
“There are over 5,000 bars and restaurants in the state. During the lockdown, we suffered huge losses. You are only calculating government revenue. No one is paying attention to the loss we have suffered. “We have the opportunity to recoup our losses. Give us permission to keep the bars and restaurants open full time on December 31 and January 1. This ordinance is a gross injustice to us,” he said.
Urging the government not to restrict business during the New Year, he said: “You are restricting celebrations that take place on public roads. We are not opposed to it. If you give us the opportunity to do business full time during these two days, it helps us a lot to recover from our financial difficulties. I ask the Chief Minister and the Minister of Excise to pay attention to our difficulties. Please pay attention to the plight of our employees. Please make the necessary changes to the order that is taken. We are not asking for business opportunities out of greed. Just give us an opportunity to balance our losses. The government simply monitors the revenues we generate but ignores our difficulties. “
