Mangaluru, October 21: Mangaluru Town Police Station, Dakshina Kannada District Police and 7th Karnataka State Reserve Police Battalion celebrated “Martyrs Day” here at the Armed Reserve Police premises of the district on Thursday, October 21, to commemorate the sacrifices of the police officers who lost their lives on duty.
IGP Devajyothi Ray as well as Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar, Deputy Commissioner Dr KV Rajendra, Deputy Police Commissioner (Law and Order) Hariram Shankar and others paid their respects at the memorial.
The names of police officers who lost their lives in the past year were read.
Police Martyrs’ Day has been celebrated since 1959 every October 21 in memory of a small contingent of police officers who were attacked by Chinese troops, resulting in the deaths of ten policemen. Since the fateful day when they became martyrs, the day is celebrated in their memory.
