Suspected case of human sacrifice: the Karnataka police reserve 7 people

Mysuru, January 5 (IANS): Karnataka police have reserved seven people in connection with the death of a class 10 student in a case of alleged human sacrifice. Police took some of the defendants into custody on Wednesday and are questioning them.

Mysuru (SP) police superintendent R. Chetan said on Wednesday that suspects were being questioned about the suspicious death of a youth identified as Mahesh. His body was found on January 2 near Lake Halepura in Nanjangud taluk.

His father Siddaraju had filed a complaint and suspected it was a case of human sacrifice, he added.

Based on the complaint, a few suspects were taken into custody and questioned. Police found traces of black magic rituals near the lake, Mysuru SP said.

Police have obtained information on the young man who died on his way to the lake with his friends, he added.

It is alleged that Mahesh’s friends pushed him into the lake and killed him after performing black magic rituals. The investigation was opened based on the evidence gathered so far and statements made by residents, he said.

Mahesh alias Manu’s father had filed a complaint with the Kavalande police against three of his son’s classmates and four others.

The father alleged that the accused – Hemmaragala Srinivas, Raju, Naveen and Muddu – practiced black magic and took his son to the lake and killed him on a full moon night.
