Sullia Police recover some of Dacoity’s loot

Sullia Police recently recovered 71.52 lakh of gold and ₹11,590 of silver in a Sampaje village dacoity case reported on March 20 in which disbelievers looted 1.52 lakh of silver and 83 g gold from the residence of an Ambarish.

Police had arrested Karthik, Yadhu Kumar, KN Deekshith and B. Narasimhan earlier and recovered ₹20,000 in cash, the vehicle used in committing the offense and five mobile phones earlier.

When Senthil and Pandisailam from Tamil Nadu were arrested on April 1 under the dacoity, the Jurisdictional Court sent them into custody. Police took Senthil into custody with court permission and recovered ₹11,590 in cash, 71.52g of gold and two cars, a statement from Dakshina Kannada District Police said.

Dies accidentally

A biker died at the scene after hitting an oncoming bus at the Mala Ghat in Karkala taluk on Wednesday.

Police gave the rider’s name as 23-year-old Nithesh, who was riding Sringeri’s motorbike towards Mala with a Nandesh on the passenger. The crash happened when the rider was passing a dump truck in Otehalla on an NH 169 curve. After hitting the bus head-on, the motorcycle also hit a concrete pole on the side of the road, which caused serious head injuries to the pilot.

Padmakumar from Mala Chowki informed Karkala rural police who registered a case in this regard.


Bangalore resident Samrat Majumdar, 28, drowned in the Arabian Sea in Malpe, Udupi district on Tuesday. Complainant Snehashish Majumdar, 59, the victim’s father, said his son had traveled to Malpe to attend a friend’s wedding and checked into a hotel in Malpe on Monday.

He went swimming with friends on Tuesday morning in the sea near Kulluga Resort. Samrat and his friend Binu Mohan were caught in the sea currents.

Rescuer Chandru rescued Binu first and when he went to rescue Samrat he had already drowned. The victim was pronounced dead at the hospital. Malpe Police have recorded a case of unnatural death and are investigating.
