Srinagar police hand over 21 drug dealers on PSAs and detain 69 others

Srinagar, Feb 28 (IANS): Jammu and Kashmir Police have charged 21 drug traffickers under the Public Security Act (PSA) and arrested 69 other drug traffickers under various CrPC provisions in Srinagar, officials said on Monday.

Many localities during Monday’s crackdown were raided by Srinagar district administration and police teams – led by DC Aijaz Assad and SSP Rakesh Balwal.

“These localities are where drug trafficking activities are reported by many vigilant citizens. These raids have led to the arrest of many defendants and the recovery of a large quantity of narcotics and drug products”, police said.

In a statement, the district administration and the police assured “all citizens of Srinagar that action against narcotics and drugs will continue until this threat is completely eradicated from Srinagar”.

A dedicated narcotics control room has been opened in the DC office with representatives from the district administration, police, social welfare, health and medical service with telephone number 01942483651.

“This control room will also have social media handles for better public interface and will be functional from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily,” officials said.

“Srinagar Police has already activated a narcotics hotline 9596770550 which is operational 24/7.”
