Schools in Maharashtra will remain closed until January 31 and the state government will make a decision on reopening schools after January 31. Schools across India are closed due to rapidly surging COVID-19 cases. Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has announced the closure of schools, colleges and coaching centers until February 15, 2022.

According to recent reports, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope has said that CM will take the final decision on reopening schools once the spread of COVID-19 is under control and the situation improves.

Some parents and guardians are demanding the reopening of schools citing the educational loss of students. Considering this, the Minister of Health has informed that a decision will be made after January 31.

Maharashtra Covid Cases

Maharashtra currently has a positivity rate of 22.39% which is one of the highest in the country. On January 16, the state recorded 42,462 new positive coronavirus cases and 29 deaths were recorded.

According to data shared by the Maharashtra Ministry of Health on January 16, the state has a total of 2,64,441 active cases and 67,60,514 recovered patients and the state’s recovery rate is 94.25%. .

Given the massive spike in cases, Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray announced a set of guidelines January 8. A night curfew from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. is in place and only fully vaccinated people are allowed to travel by public transport.

Along with Maharashtra, many states like Uttar Pradesh, Uttrakhand, Tamil Nadu and others have closed their schools and educational institutions.
