Puttur police arrest man accused of defrauding CAMPCO

Puttur City Police arrested a Vincy Pinto on Wednesday for defrauding CAMPCO Ltd. to the tune of over ₹9 crore with another person, Jeevan Lobo, by tampering and using false proprietary marks while supplying cocoa beans.

CAMPCO chocolate factory assistant general manager Francis D’Souza had complained to Puttur town police on June 20 that Jeevan, 36, of M/s Cospack Asia International, located in Shambur at Bantwal taluk, had been ordered to supply cocoa beans to CAMPCO through imports. in 2016. Jeevan was a resident of Delma Residency, KMF Road, Kulashekara in Mangaluru.

Since then, Jeevan had been supplying cocoa beans to CAMPCO in partnership with Vincy, an NRI in Dubai. However, in 2019, CAMPCO discovered that Jeevan had supplied cocoa beans purchased from Africa after processing them in Thailand and claiming they were grown in Thailand, according to the complaint. In the aftermath, the accused failed to pay customs duties and other taxes correctly and falsified several documents with the intention of deceiving CAMPCO.

Through all of this, CAMPCO suffered a loss of ₹9,71,50,113, the plaintiff said.

Police said immigration staff at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport arrested Vincy on Tuesday based on the lookout notice issued by Puttur City Police. He was taken to Puttur on Wednesday and will appear in court, police said. Meanwhile, Jeevan continues to be at large, Police Superintendent Rishikesh Sonawane said.

According to information available on the web, Cospack is a company located in Bangkok, Thailand, engaged in the trading of aluminum and metals. Lobo is introduced as its director of business development.
