Hyderabad, April 3 (IANS): Hyderabad Police raided a pub in the early hours of Sunday and caught 144 people partying past the stipulated time.
A hotel pub in upscale Banjara Hills was raided by Hyderabad City Police Task Force staff as it was open beyond permitted hours.
Police also reportedly found banned substances on the premises. Among those detained are 33 women and the owner and staff of the pub.
Some people from the film and entertainment industry and the children of some prominent figures are said to be among those detained and later released.
Police filed a complaint against the pub for staying open past the stipulated time. Further details were awaited.
The raid comes amid an intensified police campaign against the drug threat. The recent death of an engineering graduate from a drug overdose and the involvement of some educated and tech-savvy young people in drug trafficking and use have alarmed authorities.
The police and the new Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) are not only acting tough against peddlers but are also reserving prosecution for those who use drugs.
