Washington, March 17 (IANS): Police closed “a number of freeway exits” in Washington, DC, as a convoy of truckers drove through the area to protest Covid-19 measures in the United States.

In an earlier tweet, police asked motorists to expect traffic delays, as well as demonstration activity on freeways in and around the US capital.
A handful of vehicles believed to be part of the so-called People’s Convoy reportedly drove into downtown Washington, DC on Wednesday afternoon.
The popular convoy has been camping outside a highway in Hagerstown, a town in Washington County, Maryland, since early March.
Over the past 10 days, truckers and other drivers have circled the Capital Beltway that surrounds Washington, D.C. multiple times to protest mask and vaccine mandates.
Their activities, a spinoff from protests in Canada organized by truckers upset over vaccine requirements earlier this year, have drawn both support and criticism across the United States.
US states and cities are lifting restrictions against Covid-19 but protesters have also called for an end to the national emergency over the pandemic.
