Police and forest officers are looking for a man for seizing a bison horn and bullets in TN

Chennai, May 1 (IANS): Police and forest officers in Gudalur are searching for a youngster after horns from a bison and three sambar deer and around 700g of speckled expensive meat in addition to a locally made firearm were seized in his residence.

Forest officers had carried out four-day searches at the premises of the residence of the accused Anas, 28, and inside his locked house in Sanjay Nagar, in the O’ Forest Range. Valley, in Gudalur.

The sequence of events began after the forestry team found the bones of a wild animal outside the house on April 26 and 27.

Abdulla, Anas’ father, told police he left the house after being informed of the search.

A senior forestry officer in charge of the investigation in an interview with IANS said: “We had to open the house after the suspect did not return after obtaining consent from his father, Abdulla. An officer from the village was also present during the search in his locked house and we seized approximately 700 g of spotted deer meat, 5 live ammunition, 90 used bullets, three torches and some knives.

A forestry official said Anas, who is a farmhand, has no ongoing wildlife cases and the department plans to send the recovered bones and horns for DNA testing. The forestry official, however, said he was going to court for the DNA test.
