Bhopal, January 10 (IANS): A Madhya Pradesh police officer has been suspended for refusing to cut his hair and cut his mustache too long, despite instructions from his senior officials.
The suspension order, issued Friday to Constable Rakesh Rana, posted as a driver in the MP Police’s motor transport wing, surfaced on social media on Sunday.
The order, issued by Deputy Inspector General Prashant Sharma, said Rana might take action for not improving her appearance.
“During a check-up, Officer Rakesh Rana was found with his hair and mustache grown long. He was asked to cut his hair and trim his mustache as his participation was awkward, but he did not not followed the order “, we can read.
The order stated that Rana’s absurd and ugly mustache left a negative impression on other employees and because he did not comply with the order, he was suspended as part of disciplinary action.
Sharma also said that Rana was absolutely keen on keeping her hair and mustache long, which was not up to the standards of uniformed staff.
Calling it a matter of self-respect, Rana said he would not compromise on it because he had kept a mustache for a long time.
In a video posted on social media, he was heard say: “I don’t understand why I was suspended for keeping long mustaches when several senior police officials also served with long mustaches. J ‘ve served under him (Sharma) for a year, he could have told me earlier, but never asked me about my mustache.
