OP Jindal World University Signs Landmark Memorandum of Understanding with Spanish Government for Spanish Language Education

Sonipat, April 18 (IANS): OP Jindal Global University (JGU) signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Spain in the presence of Jose María Ridao Dominguez, Ambassador, Embassy of Spain to India, and Alfonso Perez-Hernandez Egart, First Secretary, Embassy of India. ‘Spain.

The agreement under the auspices of the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development (AECID) and the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAEC) will particularly benefit the School of Languages ​​and Literature Jindal (JSLL), which will host a teacher of Spanish mother tongue to teach Spanish language, culture and literature. This long-term academic commitment of a native Spanish speaker (lector or lectora) with specialized training in teaching Spanish as a foreign language (ELE) will benefit JSLL students as they gain a richer and more comprehensive experience. of Hispanidad (Hispanicity).

JGU has the distinction of being the only private university in India and one of a select group of 12 universities in India and Sri Lanka in partnership with the Spanish government for the teaching of the Spanish language. Students are currently admitted to the BA (Hons.) Spanish program for 2022-2025. These students will work with the Spanish reader/lectora and other JSLL teachers on language skills such as pronunciation and improve their communicative and socio-pragmatic skills.

“We will also ensure that students in the program have a meaningful study abroad experience in a Spanish-speaking country as part of their study program at JGU. This will be an added value for our students.”

During the three-year program, JSLL students will gain a solid understanding of Spanish grammar and linguistic nuances that will enable them to communicate effectively in Spanish and explore the treasure of Spanish literary texts and cultural products. Along with developing language skills, the program fosters meaningful engagement with literature, film, music, and other arts from Spain, Latin America, and the wider Hispanosphere.

The curriculum of the BA (Hons.) Spanish program is designed with a high degree of electivity so that students can take courses in language, literature, communication and cultural studies offered at many schools in the university. Students will complete several internships to familiarize themselves with organizations and businesses that engage with Spanish-speaking customers, and they will apply the skills learned during their coursework and other academic activities.

This MoU adds to 22 other cooperation agreements and instruments signed by JGU with prestigious higher education institutions in Spanish-speaking countries, including the University of Granada, University of Salamanca, University of Chile and the National University of Colombia. JGU Spanish learners will have unique opportunities to experience Hispanicity through linguistic and cultural immersion. Academic credits earned by JGU students from overseas universities will be transferred to JGU for student graduation.

JSLL’s BA (Hons.) Spanish program is the only undergraduate degree program in India to integrate study abroad as an integral part of the undergraduate learning experience. Special workshops on the JGU campus and extracurricular activities will provide in-depth language training so that students reach proficiency level B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). Students in the BA (Hons.) Spanish program will enter a vibrant community of learners and scholars dedicated to exploring the Hispanosphere.
