No proposal to rename the existing Mangaluru Airport has been received from the Government of Karnataka: Center

Press release

New Delhi, February 7: VK Singh, Minister of State in the Ministry of Civil Aviation, said no proposal to rename the existing Mangaluru International Airport had yet been received from the Karnataka state government.

The question was posed by MP Dr Subramanian Swamy in the Rajya Sabha on Monday, February 7. He had asked if it is a fact that there is a strong demand to rename the current Mangaluru airport, if it is also a fact that many suggestions have been received on the new names, and what measures the government has taken to rename the airport.

Minister VK Singh said airport naming/renaming proposals are considered based on recommendations from the relevant state government accompanied by a resolution passed by the state legislature. “No such proposal to rename the existing Mangaluru Airport has yet been received from the Karnataka State Government. The decision to rename the airports is taken by the Union Cabinet after proper consultations with relevant central ministries and departments,” he said.

As a reminder, many politicians and activists in Tulu demanded to rename the airport in honor of Koti Chennayya or other exemplary personalities who brought laurels to Tulunadu.
