Mangaluru: Rural police arrest four, seize two gold chains and two-wheelers

Mangaluru, April 25: Mangaluru Rural Police on Monday (April 25) arrested two people and seized two motorbikes they were using.

Those arrested were identified as Arif alias Vamanjuru Arif (26), a resident of Thiruvail village and Mohammed Haneef (36), a resident of Bondail Kavooru. While Arif is wanted in 18 cases of robbery, burglary, burglary and attempted murder at various police stations, one robbery case has been registered against Haneef at Bajpe police station.

The two were allegedly involved in a chain robbery incident on April 12, 2022, in the village of Paldane, within the limits of Mangaluru Rural Police. Piryadi Mamatha, a woman was walking alone wearing a gold chain weighing about 8 grams when two people on a motorbike pretending to ask for directions snatched the gold chain from the woman’s wedding and fled.

Upon police questioning, it emerged that Haneef stole a two-wheeler parked in Kalarai on March 26, 2022, used it and also stole a gold chain weighing 10 grams from a woman named Piryadi Vatsala. under the guise of asking for directions within the confines of Kavooru Police Station.

The police also arrested two other people, Abdul Samad PP and Mohammed Riyaz, owners of Nakshatra Jewelers, for buying the two stolen gold chains weighing 18 grams from the other two defendants Arif and Haneef.

The four defendants were presented in court.
