Mangalore University will offer three five-year integrated courses from 2022-23, says VC

Mangalore University Vice-Chancellor PS Yadapadithaya said on Saturday that the university would introduce three five-year integrated postgraduate courses from the 2022-23 academic year.

They are MBA in health, safety and environment, MCom in business data analysis and MSc in electronics. In addition, it will offer a Masters in Public Health and a Masters in Molecular Biology.

In his address to the 40th convocation of Mangalagangotri University, the Vice-Chancellor said the university has also offered to launch “student adalats” from 2022-23.

There were plans to install statues of BR Ambedkar and Swami Vivekananda on the university campus, he said.

Other proposed initiatives in the next academic year included the completion of the construction of the international student complex and Pareeksha Bhavan accommodation; a few academic departments and dedicated rooms in the block for VVIP guests in the same complex; the start of some postgraduate programs at the Advanced Science-cum-PG Center in Belapu, Udupi district; fill teaching and non-teaching vacancies with state government and chancellor approval, and increase internal resources through leveraging of CSR funds, alumni support, and public partnerships -private, he said.

He said one candidate completed his DSc in 2021-2022. No less than 153 candidates obtained a doctorate in philosophy, including 36 from the Faculty of Arts, 96 from the Faculty of Science, 18 from the Faculty of Commerce, 18 and three from the Faculty of Education.

Out of 5,069 candidates who sat for the postgraduate examinations, 4,526 passed (89.3%). Out of 1,335 postgraduate students who sat for the exams at the autonomous institutions, 1,300 passed (97.4%).

Of 27,427 undergraduate applicants, 18,379 passed (67%); out of 3,227 UG candidates in the autonomous institutions, 2,755 passed (85.4 percent), he said.

A total of 52 students received gold medals and 57 students received cash prizes for outstanding academic performance and 69 students (50 PG and 19 UG) hold rank I, he said.
