Karkala: Police jurisdictional issue – Body handed over after three days

Karkala, January 24: A young man from Karkala had attempted suicide in Odisha. Brought to his hometown, he died on the way. Due to procedural issues regarding the jurisdiction of police stations in different states, his body remained in the morgue of a private hospital in Manipal for three days. After the intervention of the district superintendent of police, Vishnuvardhan, the matter was resolved and the body was released on 22 January.

The youth in question was from Karkala. He was identified as Kartik (25), a resident of Immunje Road, Banglegudde, Karkala. He was working in Odisha. On one issue, he had consumed poison in an attempt to end his life. He was admitted to a hospital there. After being treated, he was taken home when he breathed his last on the way. Later, his body was kept in the morgue of a private hospital in Manipal.

Kartik had attempted to kill himself within the confines of Paradeep Lock police station in Odisha. Therefore, police personnel from there had to arrive here to register the case according to procedure. Karkala police station staff had sent a note to Paradeep Lock police station about this, but there was no response for three days. The body therefore remained in the Manipal hospital.

After the youth’s family members met and pleaded with the district police chief, Vishnuvardhan, under his instructions, the case was registered at Karkala police station on Saturday, before handing over the body to the police. family members.
