J&K Police Solve Grenade Attack Case, 3 Arrests

Srinagar, March 22 (IANS): Jammu and Kashmir Police in Shopian district of south Kashmir have solved a grenade attack case and arrested the accused involved in the terror crime, officials said on Tuesday.

Police said that during an investigation into a grenade attack case, Shopian Police, based on a tip-off, arrested a suspect identified as Fazil-bin-Rashid, a resident of Melhura.

“During his interrogation, he revealed that he was working with an active terrorist, namely Basit Ahmed, linked to the proscribed terrorist group LeT (TRF) of Frisal Kulgam and, on his instructions, he threw a grenade on March 19, 2022 at Babapora camp (D-Coy of CRPF 178 Bn), in which a CRPF jawan, namely Amit Kumar, was injured,” police said.

Police said he further disclosed that he threw the grenade as part of a task given by said terrorist to join the ranks of terrorists.

“During further questioning, he revealed the name of another accused identified as Qaiser Zahoor Khan, son of Zahoor Ahmed Khan of Nowpora Safakadal, Srinagar. Regarding the disclosure of accused Qaiser Zahoor Khan, of incriminated material, weapons and ammunition, including three Chinese pistols, six magazines, four grenades and 30 cartridges were recovered.”

Police said all three defendants involved in the terror crime have been arrested. Further investigation is underway.
