Srinagar, Feb 23 (IANS): Jammu and Kashmir police and security forces have arrested two terrorist associates linked to the banned terrorist group LeT (TRF) in Baramulla, officials said on Wednesday.
Police said they received specific information from reliable sources that an unknown terrorist group from Khachadari Zehanpora is using illegal weapons and ammunition against police and other security forces in the main area of Baramulla town to disrupt the peace and public order.
“Based on information, joint groups of Baramulla Police, 46 RR Army, 2nd SSB Bn and 53 CRPF Bn have established numerous Nakas within the jurisdiction of Sheeri Police Station. Among them, a Naka was established on the Zehanpora-Khadniyar link road and during checks. a Scooty with registration number JK05A-9328 which came from Zehanpora with a passenger was seen moving under suspicious circumstances. Upon noticing the naka group, they attempted to flee, but the alert group tactfully apprehended the two people,” police said.
During their personal search, incriminating materials, including 40 live ammunition from AK-47s, were recovered from their possession.
They have been identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad and Muneer Ahmad, both residents of Khachadari Zehanpora.
“During the preliminary investigation, the arrested duo confessed that they worked for the banned terrorist group LeT (TRF) and were involved in transporting illegal weapons and ammunition used to carry out attacks against the police/security forces,” police said.
A case has been registered and further investigation is ongoing.
