Impersonation of PMO official reported, Delhi Police investigation

New Delhi, April 15 (IANS): Delhi Police have received a complaint of forgery and impersonation from an official in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and an investigation is ongoing, Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana said on Friday.

He shared screenshots of the alleged impersonation, which went viral on social media, after an Instagram story posted by a designer named Kunal Merchant.

The story shows an email conversation between Merchant and an unidentified person, claiming to be Vivek Kumar, private secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, after the latter requested that a table be designed for the PMO.

According to the screenshots, the impersonator, in his email, wrote: “Dear Mr. Merchant, We are pleased to inform you that our Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has identified you and your design firm, to design and construct a permanent installation/executive table for the exclusive use of the Prime Minister.The desk will be placed in the Prime Minister’s Office and used by future Prime Ministers.

Denying the request, Merchant wrote, “Dr. M. Vivek Kumar, Additional Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, Thank you for considering me and my practice for such a prestigious project. Unfortunately, due to my political and social , I would respectfully decline this opportunity and wish not to be seen as a competitor for the same If things had been different and if I could have done this project, I would have liked to call this office “The Swaraj Office” .
