Dalit activist Sunder Master told reporters that some people have complained to the police about the loud music being played on the site. Although Gulabi’s family members assured them to end the event at 11 p.m., the police team, led by Deputy Inspector Santosh, filed a charge against Gulabi’s family members. and others who attended the event. Several innocent people, including the husband, were injured, he said.

Sub-Inspector Santosh and the rest of the team should be suspended, he said.

After a statement by Dalit activists, Police Superintendent N. Vishnuvardhan said the relevant sub-inspector and six police officers were ordered to report to his office. Deputy Police Superintendent Udupi asked to investigate the charge against Deputy Inspector Santosh and other police personnel

Mr Vishnuvardhan told reporters that police had visited the scene twice after residents complained about the loud music being played there, but the event continued unabated. Deputy Inspector Santosh and six police attended the scene after a third complaint.

Meanwhile, condemning the police action, Mr Poojary said the function was organized by people he knew closely. And, nine innocent people were injured in the lathicharge. In a statement, Mr Poojary said the state government would not tolerate such action. And, he called on Mr. Vishnuvardhan to take strict disciplinary action against the affected police personnel.

Kundapur MP Halady Srinivas Shetty also condemned the incident during his site visit on Tuesday. He apologized to the victims for the conduct of the police. Udupi District BJP Chairman Kuilady Suresh Nayak also called for action against police personnel.
