Get NAAC Accredited ASAP, J&K Government Tells Colleges – Edexlive

The government of Jammu and Kashmir has requested all colleges in the Union Territory (UT) to be assessed and accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) as soon as possible, shared officials on Friday, February 11.

It was the Principal Secretary of the Department of Higher Education, Rohit Kansal, who gave the instruction at a meeting which included heads of colleges in the Jammu division, officials said, quoted in a report by PTI.

To determine the quality of academic input, the principal secretary ordered an audit in all colleges. He also spoke of the need to revise courses or options and modernize the curriculum, he added.

The official shared that since the introduction of the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the push is towards quality education, curriculum flexibility and a globalized perspective, the official said.

During the meeting, the Principal Secretary briefed on the implementation of the NEP from the 2022-23 academic session and said, as quoted in PTI, “Colleges would now be encouraged to exchange knowledge and global expertise. Innovation and incubation would be encouraged in a hub-and-spoke model and expert assistance and advice would be provided by universities and other leading institutes such as IIT Jammu and IIM Jammu.

Although a good infrastructure is an important part of any institute, the main objective of any institute of higher education should be to provide a humanistic, modern and quality education. This was emphasized by the principal secretary in his message to the principals. He even informed principals that if a regular student feedback system was introduced, it would become an important part of educator evaluation.

He called on school leaders to adopt enterprise resource planning (ERP) and learning management systems (LMS), gave assurances of flexibility in the use of local funds, and said that under the NEP, start-up competitions and research will receive particular attention.
