Elopement Couple Escaped Custody at UP

Mathura (Uttar Pradesh), March 6 (IANS): A couple taken on remand to Maharashtra jumped from a moving train in Mathura and escaped.

The two had fled a few months ago and were being taken from Rudrapur in Uttarakhand to Maharashtra.

An FIR was registered against them on Saturday.

According to the Government Railway Police (GRP), 25-year-old Rahul Singh, a resident of Rampur district escaped with a 14-year-old girl from Nasik in September 2021.

The girl’s father had filed a complaint with the police in this regard and an FIR was filed under ICC Section 363 (kidnapping) at Ambad Police Station in Nasik.

Maharashtra police had arrested the man with the daughter from Rudrapur on Thursday and were taking them to Nasik on the Mangla Express train for a four-day pretrial detention, but they managed to escape at Kosi Kalan station in Mathura.

The FIR was registered under Article 224 of the ICC (Whoever intentionally offers unlawful resistance or obstruction to the lawful arrest of himself for any offense of which he is charged or of which he has been convicted, or s escapes or attempts to escape from police custody in which he is lawfully detained for such an offence) at GRP Mathura Junction.

According to the FIR, the accused pushed the gendarmes while going to the toilet with them and jumped off the slow train at Kosi Kalan station.

They were traveling with the police personnel in the B3 car of the train.

GRP Inspector Sanjay Kharwar said bi-state police are now looking for the couple.
