The hospitality industry, keen to support the clean air movement and reduce carbon footprint, wants to encourage the use of electric vehicles (EVs) among travelers who often take the road to reach popular destinations. However, range anxiety or the fear of running out of energy while traveling and not being able to find a charging station is a deterrent to most people who would otherwise prefer to drive an electric vehicle. Hence, many hotels in India are entering into collaborations with electric vehicle charging companies to set up charging points within the hotel premises. Destination charging is also believed to be a big driver of the country’s adoption of high-end electric automobiles.
Radisson Hotel Group has entered into a collaboration with electric vehicle charging company SunFuel to install charging stations in all of its hotels in India.
Both parties have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Radisson Blu Plaza Delhi Airport. On behalf of their respective organizations, the MoU was signed by Radisson Hotel Group General Manager and Vice President (Operations) – South Asia, Zubin Saxena, and Sunfuel Electric Co-Founder and Head – Partnership and community, Gul Panag.
Saxena said they are advancing their vision for a sustainable future and reaffirming their commitment to shaping the future of responsible travel through this collaboration. SunFuel Electric Founder and CEO Sudhir Nayak said adoption of premium electric vehicles in India would be facilitated by destination charging. SunFuel works with hotels in all major tourist locations in India to provide seamless electric vehicle charging.
The initiative aims to reduce the anxiety of tourists, especially those visiting popular tourist areas.
Panag said electric mobility should not be confined to city limits. Electric cars can be used for weekend trips to the mountains without any range concerns. She added, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”
Meanwhile, Radisson Hotel Group has launched the “India Road Trip”, which invites guests of Radisson hotels to take fascinating road trips across India while staying in safe and pleasant accommodation offered by the group.
As part of the green living effort, in 2019 Radisson Blu Resort and Spa located in Karjat had installed solar panels as the first initiative to save the environment. According to the hotel brand, with SunFuel cooperation on electric vehicle charging infrastructure, Radisson Hotel Group will consider working with SunFuel’s EV trails in the future, providing electric vehicle guests with the same personalized travel itineraries during their stay in the facilities of the Radisson hotel.
Other hotel brands in India have also started introducing electric vehicle charging facilities in collaboration with relevant companies – Fern Hotels & Resorts has partnered with Magenta, amã Stays & Trails – a unit of Indian Hotels Company ( IHCL) has partnered with Tata Power and Marriott is coordinating with CESL to build and operate electric vehicle charging infrastructure in the country.
