Dubai, January 8: Dubai police arrested a thief who broke into a jewelry store and stole 8 kg of gold worth 4 million dirhams.
Naif Police Station identified the suspect within 45 minutes of receiving an emergency call, when the store owner discovered the theft and alerted police.
“The suspect smashed a window near the signs with a saw in the early hours of the morning. He was identified and tracked down in a neighboring emirate. He was arrested within 24 hours of the crime, ”said Brigadier Tahlak.
The thief hid the stolen items from a friend who was staying in the neighboring emirate and who was aware of the theft. Both were arrested and the gold was recovered.
“The suspect admitted during the investigation that he had been watching the store for days to find a way to break into it. The store owner couldn’t believe we had managed to recover all of the stolen gold, ”said the sergeant. Tahlak added.
The suspect was referred to the Dubai prosecutor’s office for further investigation.
Brigadier Tahlak said strict measures had been taken by the relevant authority to change the layout of the large signs that the suspect had used to break into the store.
Dubai Police have advised owners of shops and establishments to take the necessary steps to change the design of storefronts in the Naif area for safety reasons.
