Develop Covid care centers in hotels, stock up on test kits, states said

New Delhi, January 5 (IANS): Amid a large spike in Covid cases, the Center on Tuesday ordered states and UTs to develop Covid care centers in hotel rooms and other similar accommodation to link to dedicated Covid hospitals for the taking in charge of mild or asymptomatic Covid cases.

In a letter to states and UTs, the Center called on them to improve health infrastructure in the wake of the daily increase in Covid cases and to begin putting makeshift hospital facilities back into service.

“States and UTs must also have started the exercise of reallocating beds in public and private hospitals for Covid cases to ensure maximum preparedness against another potential increase in cases,” the letter from the ministry said. Union Health.

State and TUs have also been urged to procure logistical supplies such as reagents and test kits, both for RTPCR and rapid antigen testing and kept in sufficient quantity to avoid any out of stock in cases of sudden increase in the number of cases. States and TUs were urged to take these preparatory actions with the highest priority and to ensure the regular follow-up of these actions at the state level.

Meanwhile, India continues to report an increasing trajectory in the daily Covid workload. As of Tuesday, a total of 37,479 Covid cases and 124 deaths were reported.

The number of active cases also jumped to 1,71830, representing 0.49% of the total positive cases.
