Delhi Police investigate ISIS-K death threat against Gambhir (Commissioner)

New Delhi, November 24 (IANS): Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana said on Wednesday that police were examining the death threat made against Delhi BJP MP Gautam Gambhir by ISIS-Kashmir and that an investigation had been opened into the matter.

Asthana’s comments came during an event at the premises of the Indian Women’s Press Corps (IWPC) here.

Earlier today, former cricketer Gambhir lodged a complaint with Delhi police alleging that he and his family had received death threats from ISIS in Kashmir. “We received an e-mail from ISIS-Kashmir on the official identity card of deputy Gautam Gambhir on November 23 at 9:32 p.m.”, reads the complaint lodged by Gambhir’s private secretary. The police chief said security measures outside the Delhi MP’s residence have been tightened.

The mail, viewed by IANS, read: “We are going to kill you and your family.” The 40-year-old cricketer-turned-politician has been extremely vocal on several issues, including terrorism in Kashmir.

Earlier in December 2019, Gambhir also approached Delhi police, alleging death threats against him and his family from an international number. He then urged the police to file a complaint and ensure the safety and security of his family.

Besides Gambhir, senior journalist Aditya Raj Kaul has also received a similar threat.

“Last night I received consecutive threatening emails from ‘ISIS Kashmir’ saying they will behead and kill me for my reporting on terrorism,” Kaul wrote on Twitter, sharing the screenshots. threat emails that read, “You’ve written a lot against us, now we’re going to send you on a long journey soon.” Come to Srinagar someday. “
