Chennai, December 30 (IANS): Coimbatore police on Thursday arrested several activists, including leaders of Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (TPDK), who had staged a protest against the RSS for organizing a “shakha” and camped on the premises of a private school in the city. .
TPDK General Secretary K. Ramakrishnan, addressing the protest, said the action of the RSS would create fear and unrest among ordinary people in the region.
Police said activists turned violent outside the school where the RSS was running its week-long orientation program for its lower-level executives. The “Prathamik Shiksha Varg” program took place on the school premises from December 24th and would end on Friday.
Ramakrishnan was forcibly removed from the unrest area and placed in a police vehicle.
He told IANS: “The RSS is an organization which spreads hatred and mistrust among the population and the police should not have given their consent to his camp on the school premises. We organized the protest to let the world know what RSS is doing. Our public action has enabled the local population to understand what exactly RSS is and what its agenda is. “
Police said all protesters were taken into custody and accommodated in a wedding hall in Villankurichi near Coimbatore.
