Members of the Campus Front of India (CFI) organized a demonstration, “University March”, outside the gate of Mangalore University in Mangalagangothri, against the decision to invite RSS leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat to the inauguration of the Mangalore University Student Council on Wednesday.
In the context of the protest, the police had reinforced security on the university campus. Students were arrested at the entrance itself.
Protesters held up the slogan “Prabhakar Bhat go back” and objected to the participation of Prabhakar Bhat who often gives provocative speeches.
Student activists alleged that university officials were trying to transform the university from a center of education into a “Sangha center”.
Attempts are being made to disrupt community harmony on campuses, they said.
Later, the protesters were herded into a waiting police vehicle by the police.
Amid the protest, the student council was inaugurated by Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat in the presence of the Vice Chancellor of Mangalore University, Prof. PS Yadapadithaya.
Meanwhile, members of the Federation of Students of India also staged a protest outside the clock tower in Mangaluru, against the university’s decision to invite Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat.
They skinned the Vice Chancellor and Registrar of Mangalore University for the same.
