Bangalore, Apr 2 (IANS): On Saturday, Karnataka police shot Mohammad Have, a rowdy rolling mill in the leg during an encounter. Have is accused of attempting to rape a Nepalese woman at his residence in Bangalore.
Police launched a hunt for the accused after he escaped from custody as he was taken for the medical test on Thursday. Police learned on Saturday that the accused was hiding in the Veerannapalya area and launched a search operation and eventually shot him in the leg during a brief encounter.
DCP (East) Bheemashankar Guled said the accused was shot dead after attacking police officers with a knife.
The defendant Mohammad Have worked in a puncture shop. Currently, 27 serious crime cases against him are registered in 18 police stations in 8 divisions of Bangalore. He was banned from the city last year. The accused had not only come to the city in violation of the order, but had attempted to rape a woman from Nepal when she was home alone on Thursday.
Neighbors who rushed to help after hearing his screams, grabbed the accused and handed him over to the police. He had been imprisoned 10 times before. Further investigation is underway.
