Bengaluru acid attack case; police step up search for defendants

Bangalore, April 29 (IANS): Karnataka Police have stepped up efforts to arrest the accused who is fleeing after carrying out an acid attack on a 23-year-old woman near her workplace at Sunkadakatte in Bengaluru.

According to the Kamakshipalya police, three special teams were on the job to catch the accused Nagesh.

Police say all of his family members disappeared after the incident.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the defendant Nagesh planned the acid attack on the girl and escaped.

Nagesh was allegedly in love with the victim, and when she outright rejected his proposal, he carried out the acid attack on her.

Police sources explained that the accused had poured 1 liter of acid on the girl while he was wearing thin gloves so as not to hurt her a little.

The victim was dropped off by his father at his office at 8:30 a.m. Friday. Defendant Nagesh sat in a car wearing thin gloves and holding a bottle of acid ready near her desk and awaiting her arrival.

The victim waited outside the office as it was not yet open. She saw Nagesh coming towards her with a bottle and she started running from the place. The accused chased after her and poured all the acid from the bottle on her. After the attack, when the girl collapsed in pain, without remorse, the accused left the scene.

Police gathered information about the accused going to court and imploring lawyers to plead for him and get bail. Having found no lawyer, the accused fled.

The victim had called his father after the assault.

She was transferred to nearby Lakshmi Hospital at 8:50 a.m.

She recorded her statement to the police and was later transferred to Saint John Hospital.

Further investigation is underway.
