Bombay, October 27 (IANS): The Narcotics Control Bureau (BCN) vigilance team and an ACP-level Mumbai police officer launched independent investigations into allegations of “extortion” and other issues against the BCN area manager, Sameer Wankhede, here Wednesday.
The NCB team arrived here this afternoon and reportedly recorded Wankhede’s statement in addition to summoning a “Panch witness” Prabhakar Sail for investigation.
At least four complaints filed against Wankhede in different police stations in Mumbai will now be handled by the ACP which will investigate and prepare its report on this case.
“We have started the investigation. This is a very sensitive investigation, too early to share anything. We will investigate all aspects and later inform the media of the developments,” Dnyaneshwar Singh said briefly, member of the NCB vigilance team.
The two independent investigations follow a string of allegations against Wankhede from Sail’s October 23 affidavit, in addition to the serial denunciations made by Nationalist Congress Party Minister Nawab Malik over the past three weeks.
Among other things, Sail claimed that another NCB “Panch-Witness” was used as a channel to extort Rs 18 crore from Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, of which Rs 8 crore was reportedly intended for Wankhede.
In Mumbai, at least 4 separate complaints have been filed against the NCB agent on various charges, which the ACP-level agent will investigate.
