Bangalore, March 9: On the one hand, the hijab and saffron shawl controversy continues in the state and on the other, various castes and communities have already warned the government of violent protests over booking, other benefits, etc Many castes say they don’t know what facilities they get from the government.
According to official data, there are 1216 castes in Karnataka. It was believed that only the Hindu religion had many castes. But now it is identified that Christian and Muslim communities also have many sub-castes.
Many upper caste members are willing to join lower caste groups in order to obtain government facilities. However, as the government still does not know the exact number of castes, it is not possible to announce any benefits.
It is said that about 197 castes are still unrecognized by the government of Karnataka. There are 550 sub-castes within these castes. This includes Kuruba, Devadiga, Balija, Ediga, Rajput, Ganiga Kshatriya, etc.
An appeal had been made to the Chief Minister to provide more subsidies in the 2022 budget to these castes. The Backward Caste Awareness Forum had met with CM Bommai and appealed to him in this regard also last month.
The Panchamasali community does not want to be included in category 2A. CM Bommai had assured the forum that he would not take any decision until the backward community commission reported on the matter.
