New Delhi, April 23 (IANS): The Delhi Police Special Cell on Saturday arrested five people for allegedly making fake Rs 10 coins, which the accused had been supplying for some time.
Although the special cell has yet to issue an official statement on the matter, a source said the defendants identified themselves as Naresh Kumar, Dharmender Mehto, Dharmender Kumar Sharma, Sharvan Kumar Sharma and Santosh Kumar alias Kurta.
Police filed separate motions seeking seven-day custody of Naresh and Santosh and custody of the other three defendants.
The dismissal plea was opposed by attorney Deepak Tyagi who was appearing for the defendant. The court, after hearing the arguments of both parties, accepted the plea of the special cell.
“It is submitted by the Investigator that the seven-day custody of Defendants Naresh and Santosh is necessary to catch the accomplices of the gang who are on the run and to recover the raw material suppliers and recipients of the counterfeit Indian coins made in different states.
“In view of the grounds mentioned in the motion, it is necessary to send defendants Naresh Kumar and Santosh Kumar to remand custody for seven days,” the court noted.
He remanded the other three defendants to 14-day police custody.
