Jaipur, Feb 15 (IANS): Five people, including four police officers, died when a Gujarat police vehicle carrying a defendant from Delhi to Gujarat encountered an accident in Bhabroo district of Jaipur, police officials said.
The accident was so severe that the Gujarat Police SUV had to be cut off to extract the dead bodies.
Police said the accident happened around 2am in Bhabru Police Station area after the man driving the vehicle on the Jaipur-Delhi highway suddenly lost his balance. The car hit the separator first. After that, he went down the road and hit a tree.
The accused and the police died instantly. The accident was so horrific that even the air bags that opened were torn. The bodies of the police officers and the defendants were kept in the morgue of the government hospital in Shahpura.
Gujarat Police have been notified of the accident.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot expressed his condolences in a tweet shared on his Twitter account.
He said: “It is sad to hear of the death of 5 people including 4 police officers when a Gujarat Police vehicle transporting the accused from Delhi to Gujarat encountered an accident in Bhabru district of Jaipur. My deepest condolences to the bereaved family, may God give them strength and may the soul of the deceased rest in peace,” he said.
