17 cybercriminals end up in police nets in Bihar

Patna, December 24 (IANS): Nawada district police arrested 17 cybercriminals from the Warisaliganj district on Friday.

Confirming the development, district police superintendent DS Savlaram said the hub of the gang happens to be the newly elected mukhiya of a village panchayat that reports to the Warisaliganj bloc.

“We have received complaints about cybercrime cases from several districts in Bihar and other states in the country. On Friday we received information about a gang that was active in the village of Chakway under the Warisaliganj police station. As a result, we conducted a raid investigation and arrested 17 people, ”Savlaram said.

“We also seized Rs 1,35,716 in cash, nine bank books, 10 cell phones, five ATM cards, an Aadhaar card, a checkbook and a large number of false documents from various companies,” Savlaram said.

“During a brief interrogation, the defendants confessed to the crime. They also revealed the name of the kingpin, who is a newly elected mukhiya from a panchayat under the Warisaliganj bloc,” she added.

The defendants have been involved in cybercrime for many years and have made huge sums of money from counterfeiting. They used to send random links to individual people and then tricked them after they hacked their cell phones, the officer said.

“A hunt is on to catch the remaining defendants,” she added.
