Bangalore, January 6 (IANS): As many as 14 police officers attached to the City Market police station in Bengaluru tested positive for Covid-19 on Thursday.
The incident came to light when the cops were put through a rapid antigen test (RAT). The tests were carried out following a rapid wave of Covid cases in the city and a police officer tested positive at the Byatarayanapura police station.
DCP West Sanjeev Patil explained that one police sub-inspector, two assistant sub-inspectors and 10 police officers from the City Market police station tested positive. All infected people are quarantined at home and the police station has been sealed off.
The total staff of the police station is 69. The tests were carried out on 43 cops. The others are on night duty and they will also be tested, he said.
About 60 police officers attached to the Byatarayanapura police station underwent an RT-PCR test on Wednesday after a police officer tested positive. Their results are awaited and the police service proceeds to disinfect the premises of the police station.
As the government enforces the nighttime curfew and weekend curfew, the police department is taking preventative measures to keep police personnel away from the risk of infection.
